The Legacy Collection
Wave 6
Bulid-a-Droid #39
Emperor Palpatine
Accessories
Palpy comes with his red lightsaber which he doesn’t show us at all in the OT, but hey it is an extra lightsaber! He also comes with his signature walking stick, hood, and robe. Finally, Palpy is packed with a droid part to the build-a-droid U-3PO.
Look and Feel
This figure had me very upset from the moment I saw him! Is face looked terrible and the hood didn’t sit on his head properly. When I looked at him carded in the store his face looked better, but the hood still looked terrible. I picked him up because of the droid part and when I opened him I got my real surprise! The hood fits PERFECTLY once you push it down! His head looks fantastic in my opinion once the hood is seated properly and really brings me back to how he looked in the Empire Strikes Back. I would say the one gripe I have is his long robe in the back. It is almost like a wedding gown train. Palpy’s hands even look great! I am very happy with how he has turned out.
Articulation
I am pleased with the articulation in this figure as Palpy has it almost everywhere you would want it. He has ball-hinged joints in the neck, shoulder, elbows, knees, and ankles. The only areas he doesn’t have ball-hinged joints are the forearms and the hips. These areas have swivel joints.
Overall Reaction
I picked up this figure primarily to get the droid piece, but I really love this figure after opening him. Hasbro really did a good job of integrating soft goods and molded plastic. The look of the figure really takes me back to the movie and matches up well to that freakish looking Emperor we saw in the hologram as Vader kneeled before him. I am so pleased that they didn’t make him all blue, but I am sure that will be coming down the pipe in a year or two. When hearing of this figure I didn’t know what I was going to do with him, but after getting him I plan to use in anywhere you would see an OT Palpy. Way to prove me wrong Hasbro!!!
